Wardley Maps
Wardley Maps is Simon Wardley’s openly licensed book on strategic mapping. The technique starts from a user need, maps the value chain of components required to meet it, and plots each component along an evolution axis from genesis to commodity. The resulting map reveals where organizations are over-investing in undifferentiated work and where the competitive landscape is shifting.
We use Wardley mapping as a core tool in strategy conversations. It gives teams a shared visual language for discussing where to invest, what to outsource, and how the landscape is likely to evolve. The book is published under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0) and remains the definitive introduction to the technique.
